Intervention provided for by the NOP Infrastructure and Networks 2014/2020 (www.ponir.mit.gov.it) co-financed by the European Union. The Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea is responsible for the implementation of the project “Works for the dredging of 2.3 Mm3 of sediments in the Multipurpose Pier area and for construction on the first lot of the land reclaimed for the expansion of Pier 5 of the Port of Taranto." |
Intervention financed under the R.O.P. Puglia FESR-FSE 2014-2020, ERDF Fund, Priority Axis VII - Action 7.4 "Interventions for the competitiveness of the port and interport system". Beneficiary: Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea Title of the project “Works for the dredging of 2.3 Mm3 of sediments in the Multipurpose Pier area and for construction on the first lot of the land reclaimed for the expansion of Pier 5 of the Port of Taranto. |
The project foresees the dredging of the dock, the evolution circle and the entrance of the Multipurpose Pier, as well as the construction of the first functional lot (with a capacity of 2.3 Mm3) of the reclaimed area provided for in the Port Master Plan to the west of Pier 5 (with a total volume of approximately 9 Mm3), where the dredged sediments that are not dangerous at source or that have been treated so as to remove pollutants will be dumped. Dredging has both the purpose of environmental remediation, by removing contaminated sediments, and facilitating port operations, by achieving a depth of -16.50m, which allows the docking of containerships of up to 18,000 TEUS compared to the current 8,000 TEUS
Expected results
Increase the role of the Port of Taranto as an international hub by adapting and upgrading its infrastructure. Mooring possibilities for the latest generation of containerships (with a capacity of up to 18,000 TEUS and a draft of up to 16 m).
