PORT OF TARANTO, 03 MAY 2024 - The Management Committee of the Port Network Authority of the Ionian Sea held an extraordinary meeting on the afternoon of 3 May to discuss the presentation of an expression of interest for the identification of state-owned maritime areas with corresponding waters outside the breakwaters defences, to be used for the construction of infrastructure suitable for ensuring the development of investments in the shipbuilding sector for the production, assembly and launching of floating platforms and electrical infrastructure functional to the development of shipbuilding for the production of wind energy at sea.
The public notice, issued by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security on 18 April, invites Italian Port Authorities (AdSP) to apply in order to achieve energy transition goals to promote the development of offshore wind technology in their ports, foster the development of a more sustainable economy and encourage innovation in the maritime sector.
AdSP MI will submit a joint bid with AdSP MAM for the ports of Taranto and Brindisi coordinated by the Puglia Region with which technical and administrative assessments are already underway.
During the meeting, the President outlined the areas and relative waters identified, thanks to the active support of the local Harbour Master's Office, as suitable candidate areas on the basis of the requirements and technical characteristics envisaged in the public notice, and the members of the Management Committee unanimously expressed their favourable opinion on an initiative that moves towards enhancing the Ionian port's resources and aspiring to the status of energy hub in the Mediterranean area
