Following the first edition as part of Taranto Port Days 2020, the Ionian Sea AdSP is kick starting the 2nd edition of the call "Taranto: my city-port", which is intended as a tool to renew the port's openness to the city of Taranto and, in particular, to the younger generations of students in the Ionian capital.
The call provides an opportunity for cultural and creative development that aspires to directly involve Taranto's students, giving them a key role in the journey of discovery and enhancement of the port of Taranto and, in general, of the cultural heritage linked to the sea. The call intends to foster a new identity by generating an emotional relationship with Taranto port-city, through visual, performing and new media arts.
The port-city of Taranto will become a “location-experience”, a space in which the story of a collective identity, characterised by the multifaceted nature of its cultures, finds inspiration. The youngsters will be put together in class/students groups and will be asked to create a storytelling via joint workshops/labs based on art performances such as drawings, photographs, text writing and video stories filled with songs or acted scenes.
Why visual, performing and new media arts?
Because art enables to express emotions by bringing them to life in an abstract and alternative way, which starts with drawing/photography (what is the shape of my port-city? How do I imagine it? From what angle do I like to look at it?), continues with writing (how do I describe my port-city? Using what language and with what stylistic approach?), and on to video/photo storytelling (what face shall I give to my port-city? What image of the port do I want to portray?)
Through these new forms of communication, as well as through arts (writing, drawing/photos and video storytelling), Taranto’s young students will give life to these images, places, sounds and words by using them to create an emotional storytelling capable of uniting the port and the city in a journey of discovery and enhancement of maritime cultural heritage.
The call is addressed to primary and secondary school students in the city of Taranto (school years 2021/2022 - 2022/2023).
The application form for the call must be submitted via email no later than 30 June 2022 to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
