The SMARTPORT project was accepted for funding under the Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro Programme 2014-2020. It proposes to introduce energy saving optimisation and achieve high levels of energy efficiency with the aim of promoting energy efficiency in ports, in line with the EU's emission reduction targets from 2020. The project seeks to provide innovative answers to the challenges of technological and energy modernisation of ports through: - a high-tech port lighting system using innovative LED modules that guarantee a long service life and extraordinarily high efficiency that cuts maintenance and replacement costs. The proposed technology will feature a remote control system that enables instant analysis of information on electricity consumption and adjustment of LED intensity. By integrating and monitoring LED sensors, it will therefore be possible to save electricity and reduce related pollution. - development of capacity-building skills that will enable staff affected by environmental issues to be properly trained and well structured. Capacity building paths will allow ports to appoint an Energy Manager, which the new legislation identifies as a key figure for port efficiency and the implementation of a highly efficient energy management system.

The project partnership is composed of: Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea - Lead Partner (IT), Regional Agency for Prevention and Protection of the Environment ARPAP Italy, Municipality of Termoli, Port of Bar (MN) and Port of Valona (AL).

The overall project budget is equal to €850,000.00, of which €265,000.00 has been allocated to the AdSPMI. The project ends on 31.08.2021.
