PORT OF TARANTO, 17 September 2025 – In response to recent media reports regarding the ship Drea – a former Moby ferry awaiting remediation for the removal of asbestos panels – the Port Network Authority of the Ionian Sea (AdSP) wishes to clarify its official position. The AdSP has neither authorised nor will authorise the docking of the ship Drea at the Port of Taranto. This decision was made primarily in light of the legitimate concerns expressed by the local community about potential risks associated with the presence of asbestos.
Remediation operations on the ferry must be carried out under the highest safety standards and in full compliance with current environmental and safety regulations. The AdSP therefore reiterates that safeguarding public health and protecting the marine and coastal ecosystem of the Ionian area remain its top priorities.
