After the first two editions launched as part of the previous Taranto Port Days, the Port Network Authority of the Ionian Sea launches this new edition of the call “Taranto: my city-port” which is proposed as an instrument of renewed opening of the port to the city of Taranto and, in particular, to the young and very young generations of students of the Ionian capital. The call promotes, in fact, an opportunity for cultural and creative development that aims to directly involve the students of Taranto, making them protagonists of a path of knowledge and enhancement of the port of Taranto and, in general, of the cultural heritage related to the sea. The call supports the materialisation of a new identity based on the construction of an emotional relationship with Taranto port-city, through visual, performing and media arts.
The Taranto city-port pair becomes the “place-experience”, the space in which the tale of a collective identity, characterised by the multifaceted nature of the cultures that meet in it, finds inspiration. The young students have the arduous task of constructing a storytelling - through the activation of a collaborative workshop/laboratory of a class group or a group of students - characterised by the use of the arts: drawing or photography, writing and video storytelling (sung or acted).
Why the choice of visual, performing and media arts? Because through art it is possible to narrate and bring emotions to life along a linear and circular pathway that starts with drawing/photography (what shape does my city-port have? How do I imagine it? From which perspective do I like to look at it?), continues with writing (how do I tell my port-city? In what language and with what stylistic approach?), and on to video/photo storytelling (what face do I give to my port-city? What is the image of the port that I want to tell?).
Through the use of new forms of communication and the arts - writing, drawing/photos and video storytelling - the young students of Taranto will give life to images, places, sounds and words for the construction of an emotional storytelling able to unite the port and the city in a path of knowledge and enhancement of the cultural heritage linked to the sea.
